Guest house 'de Rietvogel'
Our guest house is situated in the middle of the National Reserve called “de Weerribben”. Nature here is overwhelming and close by you will find middle age towns like Vollenhove, Steenwijk and Blokzijl. Also the water-encircled town of Giethoorn, the "Venice of the North", is just a few miles from here. Just some years ago, National Park “de Weerribben” was selected by the Dutch citizens as the most beautiful place of The Netherlands. At 'de Rietvogel we can guarantee you space for comfort and quietness. Close by, in the little village Paasloo, you will find a beautiful outdoor swimming pool and in Steenwijk an excellent indoor swimming pool can suit your needs for colder days. For daily shopping, Oldemarkt is just 3 miles away. This region is very popular for bikers. Miles and miles of dedicated bike paths bring you in area’s no cars can reach. But also the wide network of small canals and lakes offers your stay at “de Rietvogel” an excellent opportunity to discover the area by canoe or electric boat. By the way, the use of our canoe is included !
If you enjoy wildlife, “de Rietvogel” is the place to be. In spring you will fall a sleep with a tropical concert of a million frogs in the background. During an evening walk you will be able to hear the mysterious sound of the great bittern or a common kingfisher will suddenly fly away. It is possible to go with the National Park forester on a late night boat tour to view dears and other wildlife. “De Rietvogel” has it’s own barn owl shelter. If you are lucky the kids can explore their pellets and can find out what the owls have been eating.
